Additional Activities

Many women attempted to vote after the 15th amendment was ratified (see Section 8: The Fight). Compare and contrast the language in the 15th Amendment with the language in the 19th Amendment. Why did some women think they had the right to vote after the 15th Amendment was passed? What language in the 19th Amendment makes it clear that women are given the right to vote? The text of both amendments can be found at U.S. Constitution Online.

Acting in the role of a newspaper reporter, have students report on the convention for a local newspaper or write a letter to an editor or friend. Students might also write a speech they would like to deliver at the next “women’s rights convention.”
