Additional Activities for An Invitation to Senegal

Imagine that you are able to take a ten-day vacation to Senegal. You will spend half of your time in the capital city, Dakar and the other half of your vacation living in a small village. You will keep a diary of your trip. You will make daily entries describing the places you visit, the people you meet, and the daily customs you observe. Be sure to contrast the differences between daily life in Dakar versus the customs of village life.

Using the Internet or an encyclopedia research the religious customs of a strict Islamic state such as Saudi Arabia. How do you think the practice of Islam by Saudi Arabians is different from Senegal? Explain why you think these differences in religious practice exist.
